The Great Refresh

Recommended for every busy event organiser.

Over many years of running events, facilitating all day then walking into a gala dinner, or flying interstate, checking into a hotel and having to head out to MC, I have perfected The Great Refresh.

This is a wonderful way to reset both your body and your mind to allow you to refocus and bring your best to whatever the next phase of your day holds.

It is definitely not rocket science but when I share my “secret” with my busy clients, I am astonished at how many have not heard of this or thought to do it.

If you have Anglo ancestors, you may have heard this called the Pommie Wash. I have renamed it The Great Refresh. It is low-tech, mindful, and extremely effective!

Picture the scene: you’ve been setting up or participating in the conference room all day. It’s 5.00pm and sessions have finished for the day. The room-turnaround and gala dinner loom on your horizon and you’re feeling, well, grotty and tired. Your mind is full of what needs to be done and there is absolutely no time for a shower.

STOP! Take a breath. Find 10 minutes to return to your room (or the closest bathroom). Follow these steps:

1.       Locate a face washer or hand towel

2.       Put it in the sink

3.       Turn on the warm water*

4.       Breathe in the quiet

5.       Wash your face

6.       Wash your neck

7.       Wash any other parts of you that you wish

8.       Run HOT water over your towel*

9.       Sit on the bed

10.   Wash your feet - SIGH!

11.   Reapply makeup, deodorant, clothes – clean socks….put on clean socks.

12.   The final lift: freshen your mouth with your favourite gum

*swap out for cool water in warm climates

You are set to go! You have done something mindful. Your head is clearer. You feel refreshed and refocused.

Take this energy to the next phase of your event.

Works for me every time!
